Giving Tuesday: Traction Gives Employees Money to Donate

Despite the sudden arrival of Christmas music on the radio, we’re not into that season of giving quite yet. But if you’re already getting into the spirit – you get a practice run with Giving Tuesday, which is happening today. With the fog of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday hangover lifting, Giving Tuesday is the perfect way to reset and get onto Santa’s nice list.

Today, Traction for Good is giving every employee (there are about 250 of us!) $10 to donate to the charity of their choice using Chimp. But Michelle Malpass, Director of Community Performance says it’s about more than just the money. “It’s the act of giving that we want to encourage. We want Tractionites to take the time to reflect on what’s important to them and give to causes that are close to their hearts. Our hope is that we inspire them to give more than the $10, which is why Traction for Good will match up to $200.”

There are no limits on what kind of causes Tractionites can support as long as they are giving to a registered charity in Canada or the U.S. Last year, the Syrian refugee crisis was a focal point for the company, and Tractionites and their family and friends raised over $13,500, which Traction matched to pay for the cost of a family’s settlement in Canada.

In addition to this initiative, Traction’s Vancouver office will also be taking part in a blanket, boot and jacket drive for the week to donate to Union Gospel Mission and Covenant House.

“Giving Tuesday gives us the opportunity to shift our focus from buying to what the upcoming holiday season is truly all about,” says Michelle.
