Best Workplaces for Mental Wellness Announced

Today, we’re very excited to share with you that we’ve been named on the 2020 list of Best Workplaces for Mental Wellness by Great Place to Work

Team happiness is our number one priority at Traction on Demand (ToD) and in today’s work-from-home environment, monitoring and promoting employee wellbeing has never been more important. 

So, what makes ToD a great workplace for mental wellness?

Dedicated Wellness Squad

With social distancing and remote work causing significant changes to Tractionites lifestyles, we were worried about our team feeling overwhelmed with challenges coming from every angle — work, personal, online etc.

In an effort to proactively address this, ToD launched an in-house Wellness Squad to offer support and resources related to mental, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing.

The Wellness Squad’s main objective is to nurture a sense of community — looking after ourselves and each other internally while trying to inspire, nurture and grow hope in each of us.

Team Sentiment Platform bettr.me 

We’re also leveraging bettr.me, a Traction on Demand app that captures real-time context-sensitive sentiment to track, measure and analyze how Tracionites feel about their day-to-day activities. 

Through the bettr.me platform, Tractionites are asked to rate how they feel in relation to their work using a scale of emojis ranging from “Amazing” to “Brutal”. Asking people to check-in with themselves and log sentiment leads to an increase in mindfulness, as well as helping people become more self-aware of their strengths, capacities and preferences.

By capturing and aggregating sentiment in real-time, bettr.me enables our people leaders to monitor and understand team wellbeing. It’s a powerful tool for the Wellness Squad who can monitor Tractionites sentiment and reach out to anyone who is logging low sentiment to check in on how they’re doing.

Wellness Benefits 

ToD places Healthy Hearts and Minds as one of our core values and as such, we have a comprehensive benefits package that includes paramedical coverage for psychologists and registered counsellors. Mental wellness is so important to us that we increased the amount available this year.

Personal Wellness Spending Account

On top of our comprehensive medical and dental benefits, all ToD team members are eligible for a Personal Spending Account to help cover eligible wellness expenses such as gym memberships, ski passes and athletic gear to ensure employees stay happy and healthy.

Employee Assistance Program

Although all Tractionites take pride in our “git ‘r done” philosophy, sometimes we can all use a little help. It’s just the smart thing to do. ToD fully funds an assistance program for Tractionites who are looking for some personal guidance or professional counselling for mental health, financial planning, time management or life events.

Community Initiatives

Often more important than the perks or benefits is the sense of inclusivity, acceptance, and a sense of belonging within a workplace. ToD offers some unique community-building initiatives including family-friendly activity days, annual retreats, Tractionite getaway cabins in Whistler and Port Moody B.C., Bikes and Bytes Summer Camps and more.

Remote Work Wellness Initiatives

On top of our regular Wellness Initiatives as mentioned above, ToD also rolled out a series of remote work initiatives to support Tractionites as they moved to a work-from-home environment.

Social Connection

Staying connected to coworkers is one of the biggest challenges for many remote workers. To keep the good times rolling remotely, ToD hosts multiple events throughout the week in the form of online events and galas, guest speakers and themed Virtual Beer O’Clocks — some past examples include Photography 101, Gin Appreciation, Wellness Jeopardy, Hometown Mysteries and Music Trivia.

Training and Education

New wellness-related webinars and workshops are run weekly by the Wellness Squad, covering topics such as Benefits of Working Out, Failing is Part of Being Human, Healthy Habits Healthy Home, and Pain Management. A library of resources is also available to team members including wellness-related educational videos, apps, podcasts, blogs, audiobooks and more.

Virtual Wellness Office Hours & Peer Support

The Wellness Squad have also set aside dedicated time for Tractionites to drop in for 1:1 check-ins and facilitate group discussions to create an open dialogue about mental, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing. We also offer crisis intervention by directing and referring Tractionites to external resources if they are seeking a deeper level of support.

Today, with a growing focus on employee wellness and the launch of Salesforce’s Work.com platform, understanding employee sentiment and wellbeing is becoming an essential aspect of safely and efficiently reopening your business.
